UPDATE: Baltimore Officer Dragged by Vehicle Before Shooting Driver Downtown

New details have been released about the officer-involved shooting Saturday night in the 300 block of N. Eutaw Street, near Lexington Market.

According to Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley, officers had cited a vehicle for suspended and expired tags and were waiting for it to be towed when a 29-year-old man arrived. Police say he initially denied owning the vehicle before later saying it was his.

An officer reportedly allowed the man to retrieve his belongings from the car. Police say the man then got into the driver’s seat and attempted to drive away, striking and dragging an officer a short distance.

The officer then fired at least three rounds into the vehicle, striking the driver.

The 29-year-old was transported to the hospital in critical condition. The officer suffered back and neck injuries and was also hospitalized.
