Reports have been circulating of vehicles in Maryland wrapped to closely resemble law enforcement cars, sometimes referred to online as “stance enforcers.”

While these vehicles may look similar to police units, Maryland law does not automatically make custom wraps illegal. However, the legality depends on how the vehicle is presented and used.

If a vehicle is used in a way that could mislead others into believing it is an official police vehicle, or if it includes unauthorized emergency lights or equipment, it can cross into violations such as impersonating law enforcement or improper use of emergency lighting.
