The audit found Maryland failed to “conduct timely and appropriate follow-up of questionable recipient eligibility identified by its computer matches, resulting in improper or questionable benefit payments.”  The audit identified almost 2,000 incarcerated people were received benefits, and an individual who received $9,000 in benefits after winning $2million in the lottery.
