Del. Malcolm Ruff is once again taking aim at the Vaad Harabbonim after the rabbinical organization encouraged eligible voters to register for the political party that would allow them to participate in the most consequential primary races.

The Vaad’s statement did not endorse any candidate or political party. Instead, it urged voters to ensure they are registered in a way that allows them to have a voice in key primary elections.

Ruff, however, accused Orthodox Jewish leaders  claiming the effort was designed to influence the District 41 Democratic primary.

The criticism comes despite similar voter registration drives being common in Maryland politics, particularly because the state’s closed primary system often makes primary elections more consequential than general elections.

The District 41 primary between Sen. Dalya Attar and Del. Malcolm Ruff will be held on June 23.
