A proposal for a “Baltimore Baby Fund” that would give a one-time $1,000 payment to parents of Baltimore City newborns, has now received enough signatures to be added to the ballot this November.  

The question does not mandate the Baby Fund offer cash payments.  If the proposal passes, the city could offer a subsidy or supplies instead.   Roughly 7,100 babies a year would benefit from the proposal, with an estimated cost for the city of $15 million a year.
