A man was shot and killed by Baltimore Police early Sunday morning after allegedly leading officers on a high-speed chase in a vehicle reported stolen during an armed carjacking in Baltimore County.

According to Police Commissioner Richard Worley, the chase began around 1:25 a.m. after the police helicopter located the stolen vehicle. Officers followed the suspect for nearly 20 minutes before the vehicle stopped on Clifton Avenue.

Police say the driver locked himself inside the vehicle. As officers attempted to make entry, another officer shouted “gun,” and multiple officers opened fire.

Investigators later recovered what police say was a replica BB gun that closely resembled a real firearm.

No officers were injured.

The officers involved have been placed on routine administrative leave while the Maryland Office of the Attorney General Independent Investigations Division investigates the shooting.
