I was standing outside shul recently when a pack of kids came flying down the street on electric scooters. One of them wasn’t wearing a helmet, and several were going unbelievably fast.

I remember shuddering and quietly davening to Hashem that no accident should happen.

Just moments later, I saw a large Chevy Suburban beginning to pull out of a driveway. One of the kids gunned it, trying to squeeze past before the vehicle fully entered the street. Somehow, he made it by inches.

Maybe my tefillah two minutes earlier helped. Maybe not. But the whole ordeal left me shaken.

I honestly don’t understand what kind of parents are buying these things for young kids. These scooters can reach dangerous speeds, and many children ride them with no helmets, no supervision, and little understanding of the risks.

It’s only a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt or worse C’VS
