Maryland stores began charging a mandatory “Paint Fee” last week, adding $1.15 to purchased of a gallon of paint and $2.25 for five gallons.

100% of the new fee is being sent to a nonprofit named PaintCare, to operate a paint recycle program.  The nonprofit is drawing heat, with House Freedom Caucus members sending a letter to the Governor stating:

“Marylanders should not be paying a tax to support a nonprofit that has $63 million invested in the stock market.”
