The Maryland House of Delegates passed the Community Trust Act late Saturday night in a 92–37 vote after a lengthy 13-hour session.

The bill now heads back to the Senate for final approval on the last day of the legislative session. If approved, it will go to the governor’s desk.

Supporters say the legislation will limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement to focus on individuals convicted of serious crimes and require a judicial warrant for certain actions by ICE.

Opponents argue the bill effectively turns Maryland into a “sanctuary state” and could weaken cooperation between local law enforcement and federal agencies.

The outcome now depends on whether the Senate agrees to the House changes before the session ends.
