In a last-minute move before the legislative session ended, Maryland lawmakers passed the controversial Community Trust Act, reigniting debate across the state.

The bill limits cooperation between local law enforcement and federal immigration authorities in certain cases, including restricting communication about a person’s immigration status while in custody.

The bill now heads to Gov. Wes Moore, who will “decide” whether to sign it into law.
