The Maryland State Board of Elections plans to bring its mail ballot vendor in for questioning after a major printing error forced the reissue of hundreds of thousands of mail-in ballots ahead of this year’s primary election.

The error caused some voters to receive ballots for the wrong political party, prompting election officials to mail replacement ballots statewide.

Election officials say they intend to determine how the mistake occurred, hold the vendor accountable, and implement safeguards to prevent similar issues in future elections.

The Board has emphasized that replacement ballots have been sent and that affected voters should use the corrected ballot to ensure their vote is counted.
