A man was shot and killed by Baltimore Police Thursday morning after allegedly opening fire on officers responding to a call involving an armed suicidal individual.
According to police, around 9:12 a.m. officers responded to the 800 block of Caton Avenue for reports of an attempted suicide involving a man with a gun. As officers arrived, the suspect allegedly began firing at an officer’s vehicle.
Deputy Police Commissioner Kevin Jones said officers attempted to de-escalate the situation and repeatedly ordered the man to drop the weapon and get on the ground. Police say the suspect ignored commands and continued firing, leading two officers to return fire.
The man was struck and transported to Saint Agnes Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police recovered a firearm at the scene. The investigation remains ongoing and is being handled by Baltimore Police alongside the Maryland Attorney General’s Office under the department’s critical incident
