After eight years in Baltimore County, the Guinness Open Gate Brewery in Halethorpe will permanently close to the public after Nov. 1.

Parent company Diageo said rising operating costs, economic pressures and shifts in consumer demand made the Baltimore operation increasingly difficult to sustain.

The brewery opened in 2018, marking Guinnessโ€™ return to brewing on American soil for the first time since 1954. Diageo invested approximately $90 million in the Maryland project, and the attraction has welcomed more than 2 million visitors since opening.

The closure marks the end of a major Baltimore County attraction that brought Guinness brewing back to Maryland and drew visitors from across the region and beyond.
