Today, Wes Moore signed the RELIEF Act into law, legislation that supporters say will slightly reduce utility bills and help limit future increases tied to growing energy demands from data centers.
But critics are already blasting the bill over the projected savings amount.
State officials estimate the legislation will save Maryland residents roughly $12 per month on utility bills, despite many families seeing their energy costs rise by hundreds of dollars over the past several years.
“Democrats are holding a victory lap over a bill they admit will save Marylanders a measly $12 a month while families have seen their utility bills increase by hundreds of dollars over the last few years,” said Steve Hershey, the Senate Minority Leader.
