A recent investigation found that fare gates are frequently being left open at Baltimore Metro stations, allowing riders to enter without paying. Stations have little or no staff present to monitor the gates or assist passengers.  MTA says paying the fare is still required, but declined to say how the agency verifies compliance while gates remain open.

Fare payments are used to fund daily Metro operations, meaning if riders don’t pay, Metro operations will likely suffer.
