Multiple drivers reported a chaotic and dangerous scene late last night on I-695 near the Owings Mills exit, where more than a dozen vehicles were seen pulled over with flat tires.

According to several accounts, cars suddenly hit what appeared to be a severe roadway hazard, causing immediate tire blowouts, primarily on the front driver’s side.

Some drivers believe the issue was a large pothole in the middle of the highway, while others reported being told by a state trooper that metal debris from an underpass may have caused the damage or contributed to the formation of the hazard.

One driver described the experience as “driving home smoothly, then bam,” with no time to react before the tire was blown.

Another passerby noted the unusual sight of 15+ cars lined along the shoulder with similar damage, calling it “surreal.”
