Isaac Yitzy Schleifer is raising concerns after Baltimore City’s proposed budget reportedly removed a planned property tax reduction for owner-occupied homeowners.

According to Schleifer, the City’s own 10-year financial plan projected that this year would mark the first property tax decrease for homeowners in seven years. However, despite what he described as record revenues and nearly $400 million in new spending added to the budget, the planned tax relief was ultimately left out.

“Baltimore City residents already pay the highest property taxes in the state,” Schleifer wrote. “If we can’t provide even modest relief in a year with record revenues and huge spending increases, when will we ever do it?”

The comments quickly sparked reactions online, with residents debating city spending priorities, rising assessments, and whether meaningful property tax relief is realistically coming anytime soon.
