The Baltimore Police Department is warning residents about a recent increase in carjackings involving a “bump-and-rob” strategy.

According to BPD, suspects may intentionally strike a vehicle, often from behind, and wait for the driver to step out to inspect the damage. Once the driver exits, multiple suspects may approach, threaten the victim, and steal the vehicle.

Police are urging residents to stay alert and take precautions, especially after minor crashes that may seem suspicious.

BPD safety tips include:

• Stay inside your vehicle if something feels off
• Call 911 immediately
• Drive to a well-lit, populated area if possible
• Stay aware of your surroundings
• Have your keys ready when approaching your vehicle

If confronted, police advise residents not to resist and to call 911 as soon as it is safe.

Authorities are encouraging the public to share the warning with family, friends, and neighbors.
