$245,000 in federal funding is being used to give away free gun locks and safes to Baltimore residents.  According to a 2021 annual child fatality report in Baltimore, 5% of accidental deaths resulted from a child having access to an unsecured firearm in the home.

The city has about 10,000 locks and 4,000 safes to distribute for free.  Any resident 18+ can pick one up for free from Enoch Pratt Libraries across Baltimore – no qualifications required.
