Baltimore Police say they will continue using weekend roadblocks and checkpoint-style traffic controls in Fells Point as part of their response to recent “teen takeovers” and crime in the area.
Police say the checkpoints are helping deter illegal activity and improve safety for residents, visitors, and businesses.
Some City Council members, however, say the measures should only be temporary. Councilman Mark Conway said police need the flexibility to restore order but cautioned that long-term checkpoints could hurt Fells Point’s restaurants, bars, and small businesses by making the area more difficult to access.
