A 10-year-old was arrested Wednesday after crashing a stolen vehicle into a stop sign in East Baltimore, officials confirmed.

The incident took place at the intersection of East 23rd Street and Barclay Street. Authorities say the child was behind the wheel of the stolen car and had a 12-year-old passenger inside at the time of the crash.

No serious injuries were reported.

Baltimore City Sheriff Sam Cogen called the situation “deeply concerning,” noting how easily it could have turned tragic for those involved and for others nearby.

Officials say deputies responded quickly to stop the situation and secure the scene.

Cogen also emphasized that incidents like this highlight a broader issue, pointing to the need for early intervention, mentorship, and community support for youth. The Sheriff’s Office is planning to launch a juvenile diversion pilot program later this year in partnership with local animal organizations, aimed at providing structured, positive alternatives for young offenders.
